Be a Leader in 2022

Time moves forward regardless of the world situation we are living in.  Many professional sectors are actively recruiting, and organizations and companies are looking ahead with internal promotions and re-organizations.

Are you ready to be a leader in 2022?  Your career may have been in a holding pattern during the pandemic – now it’s time to do what it takes to advance!

Consider if you are in one of the following scenarios:

  • There are no growth opportunities with your current employer.  If there is nothing more for you to learn in your position and you cannot advance where you are, then it is time to begin a job search.  Consider the following before you begin applying for jobs:  What do I want to do next?  What are my strengths?  Do I want to make a career change? Am I ready for a director or manager position?

  • Advancement is available and you want to be considered.  Your organization or company has a management position available, and you are going to apply.  It’s important to prepare for an internal promotion in the same way you would prepare when applying for an external position.  Will your current manager be an advocate for you?  Is the search committee aware of all you have accomplished? If you are not selected, what can you do to raise your profile within the organization?

  • Interested in seeking future leadership or growth beyond work.  If everything is going well for you at work, consider how you can prepare yourself for future advancement, such as taking courses towards a certificate or new degree, engaging in management webinars and trainings, or updating your resume and LinkedIn account. If you want to seek professional growth opportunities beyond work, ask yourself:  Is it time to volunteer and/or join a nonprofit board?  Run for local office? Become a mentor?  Nonprofits need professionals who have time to dedicate to their missions. And younger professionals are experiencing a lack of mentorship during the pandemic. Leadership programs such as Chicago Women in Philanthropy’s mentorship program is always seeking committed volunteers. I have been active with this program for many years and find it incredibly rewarding.

If you are ready to become a leader in 2022, as a professional career coach I can help you prepare for the next phase of your career. Regardless of the current challenges, opportunities are available for you to advance!
